How to fast and safely Get Rid of a Keloid on Your Conch or Rook Piercing - QIAO Crystal

Finding a big bump or keloid on your conch or rook piercing can be scary. Don’t worry

If you just noticed a giant bump, here’s a simple guide to help you understand what’s going on and what you can do to shrink it quickly and safely.

Why Did My Piercing Get a Keloid or Bump?

Keloid-like bumps around cartilage piercings often happen because of:

  • Irritation from sleeping on it

  • Dirty phone, hair, or headphones touching the area

  • Piercing being too tight

  • Not cleaning properly (or over-cleaning)

  • Jewelry moving too much

  • Trauma (snagging hair, hitting it, etc.)

Cartilage piercings like the conch and rook take longer to heal, so they get irritated easily.

What Actually Helps the Bump Go Away

These tips are based on common professional aftercare suggestions and what many piercers recommend.

1. Warm Saline Compress (Every Night)

This is the #1 thing that helps most bumps.

How to do it:

  1. Mix store-bought sterile saline with warm water OR gently warm the saline itself.

  2. Soak a clean cotton pad.

  3. Hold it on the bump for 5–10 minutes.

  4. Let the area air-dry completely.

Do this every night until the bump shrinks.

This helps bring blood flow to the area, softens tissue, and reduces inflammation.

2. Clean Once in the Morning — Not More

Over-cleaning irritates cartilage.

In the morning:

  • Use sterile saline spray

  • Spray the front and back

  • Let it air-dry

Do NOT:

  • Use alcohol

  • Use peroxide

  • Make strong salt mixtures at home (too harsh!)

  • Use oils or balms on the bump

These make bumps bigger, not smaller.

3. Keep the Area Completely Dry

Moisture makes irritation bumps worse.

A great trick:
Use a small fan (even a handheld one) to dry your piercing after cleaning.

Dry piercings heal faster, especially in folds like the conch and rook.

4. Wash Your Ears Daily (Very Gently)

You don’t need to scrub your piercing, but your ears collect sweat, dirt, hair products, makeup, and bacteria.

Use:

  • Unscented, gentle soap

  • Clean around (not on) the piercing

  • Rinse well

  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel

If you never wash your ears, the buildup around the piercing can keep irritating it.

5. Stop Sleeping On That Ear

This is the most common cause of cartilage bumps.

Tips:

  • Sleep on the opposite side

  • Use a travel pillow so your piercing can “hang through the hole”

  • Keep hair tied back at night

Removing pressure makes a HUGE difference.

What to Avoid (This Makes Keloids Worse)

❌ Homemade sea salt water (too strong or too weak)
❌ Oils (tea tree oil, coconut oil, etc.)
❌ Touching or squeezing the bump
❌ Changing jewelry too early
❌ Swimming or soaking the ear
❌ Sleeping on it
❌ Tight or low-quality jewelry

❌Don't be turning your piercings
❌Don't be touching your piercings
❌Don't be putting soap, oils, creams or serums on your piercings
❌Don't be sleeping on your piercings
❌Don't be putting paper towel, gauze or cottonpads/ balls or buds near your piercings

Keloid-like bumps on cartilage piercings happen to almost everyone.
The key is to reduce irritation, keep the area clean and dry, and use warm saline compresses consistently.

Do these steps every day, and you should see the bump shrink in a few weeks.
